It opened last October with a $44 million debut and legged out to $356 million toward a pre-domestic global cume of $435 million. The in-continuity extension of the popular anime episodic (think X-Files: Fight the Future, which took place between the fifth and sixth seasons of the Fox television show) is already the biggest-grossing movie ever in Japan. That means Demon Slayer: The Movie will soon pass China’s The Eight-Hundred ($472.5 million, including $460 million in China) as last year’s biggest-grossing movie. That also brings its global cume, not counting anything it’s earned elsewhere since Sunday, to $462 million. That brings its seven-day total up to $27.705 million. has not been releasing Mon-Thurs updates for Mortal Kombat, I can report that last weekend’s other big release, Demon Slayer: The Movie Mugen Train, has earned $1.348 million on Thursday in just 1,247 theaters.
